3600m Down to Shipton’s Camp, Lobelia Bloom – Mount Kenya

60 x 40 cm

oil and mixed media on linen canvas

Framed in a custom designed oak frame

Descending towards Shipton’s Camp at around 3,600 metres, the landscape of Mount Kenya becomes increasingly strange and prehistoric. Giant lobelias rise from the alpine vegetation beneath the mountain’s immense volcanic peaks.

The painting draws on the shifting colour, scale and unusual plant life encountered along the trail, with the mountain appearing and disappearing above a dense foreground of high-altitude flora.
