oil and mixed media on canvas

custom designed white tray frame

Hinterland explores the quiet space between remembered and imagined landscapes. Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting evokes the lingering impressions that remain after a journey has ended- where memory, atmosphere and terrain gradually dissolve into abstraction.

Built through layered oil paint and mixed media, the work balances muted greens and warm creams with textured surfaces that reveal and conceal traces of the painting process. Forms emerge slowly, inviting contemplation rather than offering a fixed interpretation.

Part of the Ôl collection - named after the Welsh word for trace or footprint -Hinterland reflects on the enduring marks that landscapes leave on memory, long after we have moved through them.
