The Watering Hole, Elephants at Dusk – Amboseli

120 x 150 cm

oil and mixed media on linen canvas

A herd of elephants gathers at a watering hole as dusk settles across the Amboseli plains. Beyond them, the landscape recedes towards Kilimanjaro beneath a sky caught between the last light and approaching night.

Painted following time spent in Amboseli, Kenya, the work draws on the shifting colours of the savannah at dusk — dusty earth, distant acacia and the silhouettes of elephants moving quietly through the landscape.
