Sunset in the Japan Alps – Kamikochi distils the mountain landscape into an intense arrangement of colour, texture and fragmented form. Vivid reds, orange and pink move against passages of turquoise and blue, recalling the last light catching the mountains around Kamikochi. Rather than describing a particular view, the painting draws on the colour and atmosphere of the landscape as daylight disappears across the Japanese Alps.
