oil and mixed media on canvas
custom designed oak frame
Moon Over Mount Kenya, Approaching the Summit was inspired by the ascent of Mount Kenya via the Chogoria Route, where changing light, thin air and vast volcanic landscapes create an overwhelming sense of scale. Painted following time spent walking through the mountain's alpine wilderness, the work captures the quiet anticipation of climbing towards the summit beneath the rising moon.
Rather than documenting a single moment, the painting combines observation, memory and atmosphere. Layers of oil paint, expressive mark-making and textured surfaces echo the weathered geology of the mountain, while subtle traces of the climbing route remain embedded within the composition. The result is a painting that explores both the physical journey across the landscape and the emotional experience of moving through one of Africa's most revered mountains.
