Hinterland explores the space between remembered and imagined landscapes. Rather than depicting a specific location, the painting evokes the quiet atmosphere of places carried through memory—where fragments of terrain, shifting light and lived experience gradually dissolve into abstraction.

Created through layered oil paint and mixed media, the work reflects an intuitive process of building, obscuring and revealing. Soft passages of cream and muted green suggest geological forms emerging from beneath the surface, while textured marks hint at the traces left by movement across the landscape.

Part of the Ôl series - named after the Welsh word for trace or footprint - Hinterland considers the lingering impressions that places leave long after we have departed.
