Mt. Yotei, Hokkaido draws on the distinctive volcanic landscape surrounding one of northern Japan’s most recognisable mountains. Layers of blue, ochre, violet and deep red move across the surface, breaking the landscape into shifting bands of mountain, sky and land. Built through expressive passages of oil and mixed media, the painting recalls the changing weather, colour and atmosphere experienced around Mount Yotei in Hokkaido.
