Komorebi on the Nakasendo Samurai Trail

Komorebi on the Nakasendo Samurai Trail, woodland landscape painting by Peter Kettle inspired by sunlight filtering through the forest along Japan’s historic Nakasendo Trail.

90 x 110 cm

oil on canvas

Komorebi on the Nakasendo Samurai Trail captures sunlight filtering through the dense woodland of Japan’s historic mountain route. Vertical tree trunks dissolve into layers of green, turquoise, gold and violet, while broken marks suggest shifting pools of light across the forest floor. The Japanese word komorebi describes this interplay of sunlight and leaves, a fleeting quality of light experienced while walking through the forests of the Nakasendo.
